The challenge of the design brief was to create a design solution that enabled greater and easier levels of user interaction. The easy to understand keypad combined with the hand-writing recognition technology provides great information ergonomics for the user. Another of the video phone key selling points is its dual mode functionality. The phones keypad can be locked into place to provide a sturdy stand/rest to allow users to sit back enjoy the video calling experience.

Using Recycled Materials, Nokia Remade Concept Phone

Green design from Nokia, this concept phone is almost entirely made of recycled materials, aluminum cans, old plastic bottles and car tyres for the rubber keys. The first prototype showed at Mobile World Congress show in Barcelone by Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo. Although it is clearly that the inside chipset and electronics won’t be made from old tin cans, at least this ‘Remade’ Nokia concept phone will consume less natural resources and more energy efficient by cutting the power used to back-light the screen.

Too bad that this phone is just a concept phone, hopefully we can see this green mobiles in the market soon.

Another innovative design concept from Nokia, the morph concept. Featured in The Museum of Modern Art ?Design and The Elastic Mind? exhibition, the Morph concept device is a bridge between highly advanced technologies and their potential benefits to end-users. Developed by NRC (Nokia Research Center) in collaboration with the Cambridge Nanoscience Centre (United Kingdom), Morph is a concept phone that using nanotechnology which enables materials and components that are flexible, stretchable, transparent and remarkably strong. Users should be able to transform their cell phone into different shapes.

After a complex and detailed research of the Japanese market aesthetic and functional attributes and aspects were decided. Two types were provided as a result of wish to push the trend forward combining its elements and putting then in a new arrangement. This PDAs look like a portable game console, perhaps Japanese are crazy about playing games.

Google Phone Telah Tiba!

Akhirnya Google Phone datang juga. Gadget yang merupakan ambisi Google Inc. dalam memberikan internet mudah kemanapun anda berada tersebut sekilas memiliki tampilan yang mirip iPhone dengan tambahan trackball, keyboard slider dan aplikasi untuk mengakses Gmail dan pemetaan.


Ponsel G1 tersebut ditampilkan oleh T-Mobile USA dan akan dijual pada harga US $179 dengan kontrak dua tahun. G1 saat ini sudah tersedia di pasaran Amerika dan akan tiba di Inggris pada bulan November dan tiba di negara Eropa lainnya pada awal tahun depan


G1 akan ditenagai oleh Android yang bertugas untuk memastikan bahwa aplikasi-palikasi seperti search engine akan berjalan mulus di ponsel tersebut seperti halnya di komputer. Google berharap nantinya gadget ini akan mampu menghasilkan uang dengan menerima iklan-iklan khusus pada gadget mobile.


Hal ini juga yang memicu Yahoo dan Microsoft dalam menanam modal besar untuk ikut menguasai pasar mobile dan mencegah dominasi Google di area tersebut.

PONSEL MUSIK TERBARU DARI SAMSUNG

Samsung akan meluncurkan BEATb (M3410) dan BEATs (M3200) yang ditujukan bagi para pecinta musik. Kedua tipe ini dipersenjatai dengan motion play, mirip dengan teknologi shake control pada ponsel Sony Ericsson untuk seri Walkman-nya.

Fitur yang menarik lainnya adalah Digital Natural Sound (DNS), yaitu teknologi milik Samsung untuk memproduksi efek suara 3D. Selain itu, kedua ponsel ini memiliki fitur AutoEQ, dimana fungsinya adalah untuk mengatur equalizer sesuai dengan genre lagu yang diputar. Untuk urusan menambah koleksi lagu juga cukup mudah berkat adanya Shazam, yang akan mencari lagu dan men-download lagu yang diinginkan.

Keduanya memiliki beberapa kemiripan, seperti layar LCD 2 inchi, kamera 2 mega pixel yang dapat digunakan untuk merekam video, bluetooth 2.0, dan slot micro SD. Perbedaan yang mendasar dari kedua ponsel ini adalah pada ketebalan dan daya tahan baterainya. Untuk tipe BEATb memiliki ketebalan 9,9 mm dengan bentuk candy bar sedangkan untuk tipe BEATs berbentuk slider dengan tebal 16,9 mm.

Daya tahan baterai BEATs lebih lama dibandingkan dengan BEATb, dimana BEATs mampu bertahan sekitar 400 jam untuk standby dan 7 jam waktu bicara, sedangkan BEATb hanya mampu bertahan selama 250 jam untuk standby dan 5 jam jika digunakan untuk bicara.

Hari ini ajang Let’s Rock Apple telah memberikan beberapa pengumuman besar tentang MP3 player “ratusan juta” umat, iPod. Salah satu dari pengumuman tersebut adalah iPod Touch generasi kedua alias iPod Touch 2G.

iPod Touch terbaru itu sekarang mempunyai design baru yang lebih menyerupai iPhone namun lebih tipis dalam ukuran. Selain itu dia juga dilengkapi dengan fitur Nike+ (fitur asik hasil kerjasama antara Apple dengan Nike yang bisa berfungsi sebagai pedometer, memerlukan transmitter tambahan disepatunya), layar display 3.5 inchi, fitur Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g wireless, kontrol volume eksternal, dan software iPhone 2.1 yang baru .



Generasi baru, harga baru. Ipod Touch 2G sekarang dijual dengan harga $229 untuk model 8 GB, $299 untuk model 16 GB, dan $399 untuk model 32GB.

Motorola W231, Walkman Phone Full Music

Ponsel Motorola W231, huruf W yang identik dengan walkman phone, atau ponsel dengan fitur berorientasi musik yang dapat dinikmati oleh user. Motorola W231 juga dilengkapi dengan MP3 player plus hardware dengan dedicated key di panel bagian depan. Fitur musik lainnya termasuk FM transmitter dan FM radio stereo, namun untuk masalah harga, belum ada konfirmasi lebih lanjut. Kelebihan dari ponsel Motorola W231 ini berupa bobotnya yang ringan, hanya sekitar 78 gram plus baterai, bentuknya yang unik, juga adanya slot ekspansi memori microSD (TransFlash) hingga kapasitas 1GB. Namun, salah satu kekurangannya adalah tidak adanya kamera di ponsel, karena ponsel Motorola W231 ini lebih berfokus pada music player.

HTC Touch Viva, Improvisasi Desain Terbaru

HTC Touch Viva, berawal dari nama versi HTC sebelumnya, HTC Opal, yang menurut rencana akan diluncurkan pada akhir bulan September ini. Radiasi Handphone

Salah satu perusahaan di Jerman yang khawatir akan bahaya mobile phone dan menara transmisinya dapat membahayakan kesehatan manusia dan hewan, kini dapat bernafas lega dengan adanya penelitian yang dikoordinasi oleh Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), Berlin.

Sigmar Gabriel, Perdana Menteri Lingkungan Jerman, mengungkapkan lebih dari 50 penelitian dalam DMF (German Mobile Telecommunications Research Programme), dari tahun 2002 hingga 2008, tidak menemukan bukti bahwa mobile phone dan menara transmisinya dapat menimbulkan resiko kesehatan dalam jarak radiasi elektromagnetik.

Program penelitian yang menghabiskan biaya sekitar USD 26 juta, difokuskan pada fungsi mekanis dari gelombang electromagnetic frekuensi tinggi dalam handphone atau ponsel, yang dapat berakibat buruk pada manusia dan hewan, dan jumlah radiasi elektromagnetik yang dihasilkan. Beberapa penelitian menamakannya blood-brain barrier, sebuah filter yang dapat mencegah substansi tertentu yang berbahaya dalam darah dari neuron terdekat dalam otak.

Dalam penelitian juga ditemukan sekitar 1,5% orang yang menamakan dirinya “electrosensitive” dan lalu mereka menyalahkan radiasi electromagnetic yang telah menyebabkan gangguan kesehatan. Para peneliti mengungkapkan bahwa mereka memang memiliki gangguan kesehatan seperti sakit kepala, dan susah tidur, yang dapat disebabkan oleh berbgai hal, namun sepertinya tidak ada hubungannya dengan radiasi elektromagnetik. Para peneliti juga menegaskan, tidak ada bukti bahwa electromagnetic dapat menyebabkan masalah kesehatan, yang dinamakan electrosensitve.

Oleh karena itu, BfS juga akan melakukan banyak penelitian untuk penggunaan ponsel dalam jangka waktu yang lama, dan akibatnya pada anak-anak dan remaja. Kemudian para peneliti memberikan saran kepada masyarakat untuk menggunakan mobile phone tidak terlalu sering, dan membeli model yang memiliki radiasi rendah, dan memastikan kondisi handphone saat diterima dalam keadaan yang baik.(h_n)

GENERASI I-POD

Apple kembali meluncurkan iPod generasi keempat dalam konferensi pers di Amerika yang dilakukan oleh Steve Jobs. iPod Nano tersebut sangat ramah lingkungan, dengan bahan bebas arsenic dan mercury, juga bebas PVC, sehingga merupakan barang yang dapat didaur ulang (recycleable). Nano ini juga telah dijual di Inggris dengan harga £109 atau USD 191 untuk versi 8GB, sedangkan untuk versi 16GB akan dijual di retail dengan harga £149.

Kini iPod Nano generasi keempat dari Apple ini telah hadir di Indonesia dengan ukuran panjang dan lebar 90.7mm x 38.7mm, sedangkan tebalnya mencapai 62mm, bobot 36.8 gram. iPod Nano baru ini memiliki layar LCD 2 inch dengan resolusi 320x240 pixel, sehingga termasuk gologan display iPod yang cukup bagus untuk menonton film atau melihat gambar. Untuk kapasitas iPod Nano ini terbagi dalam dua versi, 8 GB dan 16 GB.

Apple juga mengklaim bahwa iPod Nano baru ini merupakan iPod paling tipis dan dilengkapi teknologi canggih yang dapat mengatur playlist, yang dinamakan Genius. Fitur Genius ini akan menyesuaikan dengan posisi layar. User juga dapat mengatur playlist secara otomatis dan hanya dengan satu tekan tombol ‘klik’.

Sementara untuk iPod Nano versi 16GB, dengan kapasitas sebesar itu, maka user dapat menyimpan 14.000 foto, 16 jam video, dan 4.000 lagu. Sedangkan untuk versi 8GB dapat menyimpan hingga 8 jam, 7.000 foto, 2.000 lagu. Untuk bahan casing iPod Nano Apple ini dilapisi alumunium and lapisan glossy di bagian luar. Terdapat sembilan pilihan warna iPod Nano, biru, hijau, orange, kuning, pink, hitam, merah, silver, dan ungu. Baterai di dalam iPod mampu bertahan hingga 24 jam non-stop dan video selama 4 jam lamanya. iPod Nano dapat dibeli di toko online Apple, dan versi 8GB diberi label harga sekitar Rp1.830.000, serta untuk versi 16GB berkisar Rp2.480.000. voIP Telpon Murah Lewat Internet

VoIP merupakan suatu teknologi komunikasi yang menawarkan kemudahan bertelepon melalui Internet. Kini berkomunikasi melalui telepon tidak hanya bisa dilakukan dengan mengandalkan pesawat telepon konvensional maupun handphone saja, namun melalui Internet kita juga bisa melakukannya.

VoIP sendiri merupakan kepanjangan dari Voice over Internet Protocol atau yang lazim disebut juga dikenal dengan sebutan IP (Internet Protocol) Telephony atau Telepon Internet. Dengan VoIP, kita tidak lagi memerlukan pesawat telepon.

VoIP sendiri lebih sering digunakan untuk sambungan panggilan jarak jauh, seperti interlokal maupun internasional. Alasan utamanya dikembangkannya teknologi ini tidak lain adalah karena mahalnya biaya komunikasi, dalam hal ini telepon konvensional. Oleh karenanya alasan utama orang memakainya pun adalah karena murah, atau bahkan bisa dibilang 'gratis' karena tidak dikenai biaya pulsa konvensional, hanya memerlukan biaya sambungan Internet saja. Untuk memulai suatu pembicaraan VoIP, kita hanya memerlukan seperangkat komputer, mikrophone dan speaker serta koneksi Internet saja.

Pada dasarnya ada tiga jalan untuk menggunakan VoIP, yang pertama adalah jika kedua belah pihak mempunyai komputer beserta sambungan Internetnya. Jalan yang kedua adalah jika pihak yang satu memakai komputer sedangkan pihak yang lain memakai pesawat telepon. Sedangkan yang ketiga adalah kedua belah pihak menggunakan pesawat telepon.

Hal menarik dari VoIP adalah bahwa dalam penggunaannya VoIP tidak memerlukan infrastruktur tambahan, sehingga menghemat biaya. VoIP meneruskan suara melalui infrastruktur standart Internet, dengan memakai protokol IP. Itulah mengapa kita dapat berkomunikasi tanpa harus membayar lebih selain harga koneksi Internet itu sendiri, hal ini tentu saja sangat menguntungkan untuk komunikasi jarak jauh (interlokal maupun internasional) yang pada penggunaan telepon konvensional biasanya menghabiskan biaya yang mahal. Untuk memudahkan pemakaian teknologi ini, kini telah tersedia berbagai macam layanan gratis VoIP seperti Skype, Gizmo, VoIPStunt dan berbagai macam aplikasi layanan VoIP lainnya.

VoIP bisa menjadi tidak gratis lagi jika digunakan jauh dari komputer, semisal menggunakan perangkat pesawat telepon atau handphone, karena penggunaannya akan memerlukan layanan berbayar. Namun begitu layanan yang dimaksud tetaplah lebih murah dibandingkan dengan penggunaan jasa telepon konvensional. terutama untuk penggunaan jarak jauh internasional, menurut analisa bisa menghemat biaya hinga hampir 90%.

Sebagai teknologi yang relatif baru, VoIP dengan cepat telah diterima secara luas. Namun begitu, VoIP diharapkan terus mengembangkan teknologinya di masa yang akan datang, terutama dalam hal pengaturan pemakaian dan masalah keamanannya. Selain itu VoIP telah berhasil memposisikan diri sebagai salah satu kandidat teknologi terbaik pengganti POTS (Plain Old Telephone Systems).

Pertumbuhan pemakaian VoIP sendiri dapat diperbandingkan dengan pertumbuhan Internet pada awal 90'an. Tentu saja hal ini tidak lepas dikarenakan kesadaran masyarakat akan keuntungan dari pemakaian teknologi ini dalam solusi komunikasi masyarakat, khususnya di Indonesia dimana biaya komunikasi terbilang masih mahal.(dna)

POnsel Android 2008

T-Mobile telah berencana untuk memperkenalkan ponsel pertamanya, G1, secara resmi yang mampu berjalan di software Google Android pada tanggal 23 September dalam konferensi pers di New York. T-Mobile sebuah impian HTC berharap dapat meluncurkan ponsel ini ke public pada akhir Oktober. Software Google Android datang setelah T-Mobile menjanjikan sebuah aplikasi yang akan ada di pasar smartphone dan untuk menyediakan platform aplikasi mobile untuk menyaingi iPhone Apple.

November tahun lalu, Google mengumumkan formasi dari Open Handset Alliance, sebuah grup aliansi yang memiliki lebih dari 30 perusahaan hardware, software, dan telekomunikasi, untuk mempromosikan standard terbuka untuk ponsel. Grup tersebut termasuk Google, HTC, Intel, Motorola, and T-Mobile. Google telah merilis Android 0.9 SDK beta dan T-Mobile telah mengkonfirmasi mengenai rencananya untuk membuat ponsel dengan software Android. Pada bulan Agustus lalu, telah mengumumkan Android Market, sebuah sistem distribusi terbuka yang akan membantu user menemukan, membeli, mendownload, menginstal variasi tipe content dalam device dengan softwar Android.

“Pengembang dapat menggunakan handset pertama G1 ini dengan sebuah versi beta dari Android Market.”, kata Eric Chu, manager program platform mobile Google. Munculnya ponsel T-Mobile Android dan aplikasi fungsinya kemungkinan akan menjadi controversial dengan iPhone Apple dari iTunes App Store, sebagai kompetitornya.(h_n)

HISTORY OF NETWORKS COMMUNICATION

Ever wondered how we have become so attached to all things technological and why it has become such an essential part of our daily lives to use these devices for communication? When looking at how we used to communicate with each other, our lives have become such that we are in need of things to happen post-haste and preferably without any faults. These days every single person in the UK use some technological device for communication, whether it is a telephone, internet, IP phones, television etc. Gone are the days of sending out a messenger on the horse to send your telegram.

Network communications have made it simpler and more efficient to provide important data across companies and between individuals who are distances apart from each other. Many people and businesses use the internet as their main point of contact. Sending emails and chatting on message chat rooms are more common than sending out a posted letter. There seem to be more people sending over faxes, emailed documents and word documents in a matter of a few seconds or minutes, rather than having to wait weeks upon weeks on receiving that delivery.

The starting point of finding where our need for network communications come from is how communication has developed with time, this being one of the most important aspects of our life. Communication is how we survive; it is the foundation of our everyday life and one that we cannot live without. Back in the days when smoke signals were the main source of sending messages or communicating, our survival instincts depended heavily on being able to communicate effectively with others. Therefore, more efficient ways of communicating, which did not entail a smoke signal from afar was needed.

Skipping a few hundred years we come to the first invention of the non-electric telegraph was invented by Claude Chappe in 1794. It worked solely from using ones line of sight, using a semaphore (a device used for visual telegraphic communication on a tower with pivoting blades) and flag based alphabets. It would not be long after that this optical telegraph was taken over by the electronic telegraph.

In 1809 the electric telegraph was built in Bavaria by a man named Samuel Soemmering, who used 35 wires in water with gold electrodes in which 2000 feet at the receiving end the message was read by the amount of gas emitted from electrolysis. This was an effective way of communicating, which was then followed on with what was going to be the revolution of the telegraph - electromagnetic. The British inventor William Sturgeon put up a display of electromagnetic in 1825 picking up nine pounds using a seven ounce iron wrapped in a wire that was powered by a single cell battery.

It would the invention of electromagnets that would change the way telegraphs worked. American inventor Joseph Henry then demonstrated that you could use electromagnetic to communicate over long distances, through sending electronic currents over a mile of wiring and then resulting in it activating an electromagnet that would make a bell ring at the receiving end. Samuel Morse would then follow on create a better invention using the electromagnetic communication idea and proving that signals can travel through wires.

This prompted a marker to move and write the written code on a piece of paper - thus inventing the Morse code. This became the most successful form of communication used by the army and government. It was later modified so that the markers would emboss the paper with dots and dashes. This was not used until 1838 in which the government put more funding into an experimental telegraph line from Washington to Baltimore - stretching 40 miles.

A further six years would pass and the government witnessed some of the first messages sent by Morse code - the words 'What Hath God Wrought' was one of the first messages on paper via the embossed dots and dashes method. The success of the Morse telegraph spread the world of telegraph across the globe. It would be in 1891 that the Postal Telegraph system would be put into place and then later merging with Western Union.

In the year of 1877 the telephone rivalled with the telegraph, in which the former was favoured more for the fact that it be heard by the human ear and was much quicker. However, the electronic telegraph was successful in striking the idea of sending message on paper - this would span out to influence the way computers and the internet worked. The first email ever to be sent was not until the 1970's, which was privately by government officials. Commercial emailing was not introduced until 1989 which changed the face of communication. With it came online messaging and VOIP communications.
